Pastor Alex Thompson

Our pastor is Alex Thompson. Alex grew up in a small town in central Illinois. After finishing college at the University of Evansville, he completed seminary at Candler School of Theology. He recently completed his Ph.D. in New Testament at Emory University and is an ordained elder in the UMC. He pastors Niota UMC as well as our sister church Cedar Springs UMC. He is also a professor of religion at Tennessee Wesleyan University where he teaches classes in Bible, Greek, and Religion. His hobbies include reading, writing, puzzles, and listening to classic rock.

Pastor Alex is joined in ministry with his wife, Mary Thompson (formerly Mary Austin), who is an ordained deacon in the UMC and works as the Director of Camp and Retreat Ministries in the Holston Conference. They have a little boy named Beckett who turns three in February.



Annie Hopson

Annie is the music director of Niota UMC. She is a graduate from Tennessee Wesleyan University where she holds a degree in music. Annie directs the choir and organizes the music for Sunday worship services.
